My home-based cake design business is based in the historic mill town of Belper in Derbyshire, but covers the whole of the East Midlands. I create Wedding Cakes and Wedding Dessert Tables, but also Celebration Cakes and Event Cakes for birthdays, anniversaries, christenings, engagements, baby showers, corporate events and many more.
As a science graduate, I love the precision of baking and the skill involved in creating that perfect cake texture and flavour. I am dedicated to achieving high-end finish cakes with the flavour quality that exceeds the expectations of my clients. My couples and clients are those that have an eye for contemporary design but also place flavour and quality as equally important.
With all of my cakes, I always aim for the highest levels of detail and I love to include bespoke artistic touches giving you an entirely exclusive design to encompass your personality and vision for your celebration. I only take on a limited number of bookings each week, only one actual wedding cake each week to ensure that the service I provides from initial contact through to completion is personal, professional and tailored to your exact needs and requirements.
Design and flavour are equally important!
Before starting my cake design business, I was a full time Science teacher at a local comprehensive school. With a background in Genetics after studying for my degree at Liverpool University, I trained and began teaching as a Biology specialist in 2006. Some would question the link between Science and baking, whereas I would say that baking is very scientific and I particularly enjoy mastering new patisserie techniques in my home kitchen.
My passion for baking was initially ignited by my Nana and Mum during my childhood, their homemade chocolate cakes were simply incredible and every celebration we had as a family was centred around food and cake.
Claire Taylor Cake Design was born after the birth of my second child Ava, and the heart breaking passing of my mum in December 2017. I found my love of baking again as a creative outlet, one that would help me to manage my grief whilst making those special celebration cakes for my children’s birthdays.
Initially named Taylor-Made Bakes, I formally began my business in February 2019 and I continue to bake from my home kitchen. I then re-branded the business to ‘Claire Taylor Cake Design’ in July of 2020 to focus more attention on the Wedding Industry and the direction that my business was moving in.
During the design and consultation process for Wedding Cakes, I invite you into my family home to view my Wedding Cake Display, the kitchen where your cakes are made, taste my signature cake flavours and begin the collaborative design process. If you are looking for a cake maker that places flavour as highly as design finish, then you are in the right place as I personally hand make all of my cakes, ganache, fruit curds, caramels, macarons, doughnuts, cakesicles and more. I use the finest ingredients that are all locally sourced, organic and fair trade where possible.
